Where did we come up with this name?

The name Los Amates comes from the Amate paper which dates back to pre-Columbian Mesoamerican times.
The Amate was used for religious purposes. Wizards would paint messages they received from the Gods on the Amate paper. These practices have continued until current times where they are still used amongst some indigenous communities.
Today the Amate paper is considered art, each Amate has its own unique style and cannot be reproduced.

Amate paper is a symbol of Mexican roots, as well as food is, so we wanted to represent in our restaurant all things that give you an authentic and traditional Mexican experience.
