The name Los Amates comes from the Amate paper which dates back to pre-Columbian Mesoamerican times.
The Amates was used for religious purposes. Wizards would paint messages they received from the Gods on the Amate paper. These practices have continued until current times where they are still used amongst some indigenous communities.
Today the Amate paper is considered are, each Amate has its own unique style and cannot be reproduced.
